Agency Hired Respite & Self Hired Respite

The primary purpose of any respite experience is to give the family member or guardian of a disabled family member an occasional break from their demanding caregiving routine. A break to rest, recreate, or even retreat for a few hours each week. The practice of providing respite opportunities to residents of Cumberland County is our oldest existing service, dating back over 30 years.

Our Agency Hired Respite service is our traditional respite service that we provide for the families of consumers under the age of 21. Our trained and State of New Jersey certified staff will provide these services at the consumer’s home, working on goals established by the caregiver and our agency representatives or accompany the consumer to a recreational activity of their choosing in their local community. Either way, our staff will engage the consumer in a safe and nurturing environment each and every time that they visit.

The Self Hired Respite service allows the family of the disabled consumer the opportunity to hire their own respite provider, including any family member who does not reside in the same home as the consumer. The family member is reimbursed by the Arc of Cumberland County upon submitting monthly documentation to our agency, authenticating all respite services provided.

These programs are coordinated by Perform Care through their Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Services. The Arc of Cumberland County is an approved provider of Perform Care services.
