Supported Employment Services

What is Supported Employment?

Supported Employment is an outcome that enables adults with disabilities to obtain and maintain competitive employment within the local community. Agencies, such as the Arc of Cumberland County, must be approved by the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (NJDVRS) in order to provide these services. We received our approved vendor status from NJDVRS in February of 1998. We are also an approved vendor for these services by the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities, and the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. We are an approved Medicaid Service Provider.

Supported Employment Services (SES) at The Arc of Cumberland County is accredited for Community Employment Services by CARF (formerly the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). SES has received seven consecutive full three year accreditations since its inception in 1998, most recently in June 2019. Each year, we establish goals and objectives for our supported employment services and evaluate the goals and objectives established for the previous year. This information is presented in our Outcome Management Report (OMR). Copies of our 2016 OMR, 2017 OMR, and 2018 OMR are presented here for your review.

What services are provided?

Supported Employment Services are traditionally divided into three distinct phases. They are job development, intensive coaching, and long term follow along status. Please click on each respective phase for a thorough presentation of the services our employment specialists will provide.

Who is eligible for services?

Any adult who is approved for services with the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (NJDVRS), the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities (NJDDD), or the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NJCBVI) may be eligible. The Arc of Cumberland County will assist individuals with a qualifying disability in obtaining eligibility status for this service. We currently are approved to provide this service in Cumberland, Atlantic, Cape May, and Gloucester counties.

Is there a cost involved?

There is no fee for supported employment services. Consumers will have to assume any costs involved in using public transportation to and from the job sites. Our staff will assist in travel training all consumers who live near a public transportation route. Additionally, we will assist in registering individuals for New Jersey Transit Access Link services if they meet the service eligibility qualifications and providing required travel training on Access Link vehicles. This service is not timeless and consumers are expected to fully participate in the all three phases of the service.
